You "encourage" it?

So the last few days I have been dropping the boys off in the carpool line instead of walking them to their classrooms.  They seem to be able to find their classes just fine now so I knew they would be okay.  Plus it just saves time... and it means I don't have to brush my hair before leaving the house. :D  But today, I needed to bring in some checks for those Scholastic book club order things so I decided to walk the boys in so I could hand the checks to the teacher.  Well, on my way in to the class, one of the teacher assistants walked by and told me that the boys know how to find their classes and they "encourage" parents to just drop them off after the first two weeks.  I explained to her why I was walking them in and that I had otherwise started dropping them off.  But still, that remark just didn't sit well with me.  There is no reason I shouldn't be able to walk them in! Especially considering they are some of the smallest kids in the whole school and the school is known for having bullying issues.
When they were in Pre-k, the school was an open book, and I loved that!  There were two windows in every classroom that face the interior hallways and parents were allowed to stand there and watch the entire class if they wanted to.  We were even welcomed to come and sit in on the classes if we wanted.  I understand that elementary school is different, and I wouldn't want to be a distraction by hanging around the classroom, but I really don't see the reason for "encouraging" parents not to walk their kids in.

  1. For real! I understand the idea, but you give them your kids for hours everyday...if you want to walk them in, they shouldn't give you a hard time. They can be independent for the rest of the day!
